In the Groove

During this very busy time of year I am shooting sessions A LOT. So it helps when I can get "in the groove" and feel inspired each time I head out for a session. I try to facilitate that by visiting all of my favorite photography related websites and blogs for inspiration, making a plan for a few shots I'd like to try, and then turning up the radio and singing along on the way to the shoot (be glad you all aren't present for that part!).

In the past week I've been feeling "in the groove" as I have had the opportunity to capture all the cuteness you'll see below.

Ellie Kate was so adorable for her studio session:

See the flower she's holding? It's real and she "depetaled" three of them in no time, it was so adorable. :)

This is my new gray backdrop--I love it's simplicity.

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of traveling out to the farm that Sarah and her family live on. They had goats, cows, and pigs and a plethora of beautiful photo spots. Despite the mud and wet grass from the rain earlier in the day, I had a wonderful time there!

Do you remember how cold it was on Tuesday? Let me assure you, it was freezing outside during this session, but this brother and sister pair never complained for a moment. I have never seen two siblings so easy and natural with each other as these two. By the end my fingers were t0o cold to press the shutter any longer, but it was worth it!

Do you remember being in 5th grade? That time when you're not a little kid anymore but not a teenager yet either. That's right where this beauty, Canvas, is....in between and growing into a beautiful young lady. She wants to be a gymnast and a marine biologist when she grows up. I think she looks a bit like Hayden Panettierre from the Heroes tv show. What do you think?

And finally, yesterday I got to hang out with my boys. But wait, you say, you don't have any boys. No, but every year I get to spend a couple of hours hanging out with these guys and taking their portraits. I LOVE these guys and while they probably wouldn't want to admit it, I think they look forward to hanging out with me every year too!

I hope everyone has a great Halloween and a wonderful weekend as well. I'll be heading out with our Wizard of Oz themed crew later tonight and secretly stealing any Reese's candy out of their bags. :)

Products

I received some new sample products last week and I thought you all might like to take a look at them.

This first product is just right for upcoming holiday gifts. These beautiful maple wood ornaments are made by my jewelry vendor. They are 2.5 inches square and crafted from fine hardwood maple.

You can choose either a mahogany or ebony stain color and customize your ribbon color.

Buy more than one of these (doesn't have to be the same image) and save money:
One Ornament $35 ( $35 each )
Two Ornaments $65 ( $32.50 each )
Three Ornaments $90 ( $30 each )
Four Ornaments $110 ( $27.50 each )
Six Ornaments $140 ( $23.33 each )
Eight Ornaments $170 ( $21.25 each )

I am also so excited to be offering these beautiful new hardbound albums. They are just stunning! They come in a box for storage and protection.

There are a variety of sizes ranging from 3x3 (perfect for your purse!), 5x5, 4x6, 5x7, 8x8, or 8x10. The album in the photos is 5x7 in size.

The pages are nice and thick each album can hold either 10, 20, or 30 images.

There are also a wide variety of cover options and colors. This album is a black silk brocade.

Inside this one are gorgeous bordered 5x7 prints.

The prices for the albums start at $50 for the 3x3 with 10 images. A 4x6 or 5x5 with 10 images would be $65 and a 5x7 with 10 images would be $80. The client that won the 5x5 version of this album on the blog a couple of weeks ago has just placed her album order. I can wait to take a few photos of it when it arrives as well and I'll be sure to share them with you.

Can't decide on what to get the person who "has everything" for the holidays. How about an UpperCase Photography gift certificate? I offer them in any dollar amount and you will receive a customized photo gift certificate to present to your friends or family.

I have new sessions to share with you too so be looking for them on the blog soon!

Patience

People often tell me after a session that I have so much patience. I'm sure if you asked anyone who lives in my house they would beg to differ. I am definitely not the most patient person in the world, but some things are worth waiting for.

This shot required the most patience and almost countless attempts to get everyone still and looking...definitely worth it. :)

Another session from the weekend...after all their patience with me we let them run full speed across the bride and they loved it!

These two parents could probably teach me a thing or two about patience...I'm sure they agree that their beautiful baby girl was worth the wait.

Dad is a cattle farmer!

And while we are on the subject of patience, photographing my own requires possibly more patience than any other subjects. There's so much more "emotional involvement" when it's your own children in front of the camera. So I was thrilled to capture this shot of my three dressed in their Wizard of Oz themed halloween costumes.

I am going to be printing this shot as it is shown here as a 10x20 for our playroom. That is the size of the large storyboards I offer, but this shot will be printed as one full shot in that size, not a storyboard. It's a striking and different for a shot that lends itself to being "long/tall and skinny."

Just a reminder:
If you would like to be put on a waiting list for a holiday session, please contact me. My calendar is currently completely full through the end of the year. Maternity and newborns are, however, always worked into the schedule.

I have opened my calendar for January and February 2009, so if you are interested in a session during that time please contact me. I will most likely wait until closer to the end of the year to open up March and beyond, so if you are interested in a session next spring... just have patience. :)
