Where Are You?

You may be wondering where I am--I'm here, I'm here! Life has gotten in the way of blogging recently. We've had more sickness (yucky stomach bug) in our house and even my camera got sick and is now at the Canon "camera hospital." Don't worry though, I am sporting a spiffy rental so that I still have two (one for a backup) until my "baby" returns.

I was thinking the other day about how many interesting people I get to meet as a photographer and how many different places everyone is from. I have many clients, of course, from here in Winston Salem, but I also have lots from surrounding areas. I often photograph clients from Greensboro (okay, LOTS from Greensboro. Hello all my Greensboro people!) and also from King, Charlotte, Wilmington, and lots of other places as well. I always like to hear about where everyone is currently living and where they grew up and it makes for interesting chat as we proceed through the shoot.

So for the much delayed April contest, I would like for you to leave a comment on the blog telling me where you are originally from and where you live now. Also be sure to leave your name. Everyone who does so by midnight on Wednesday will be entered in a drawing to win an album filled with 4x6 prints from their next session. The choice of the album will be up to me, but the choice of which prints will be up to you. :)

Here are a few shots from some friends who traveled all the way from Boston to get their portraits taken (okay, not just for the portraits, but I was so pleased I was able to photograph them while they were here!):

And here are a few from a recent Greensboro client--these photos were even taken IN Greensboro:):

And here's a little cutie right from my own house:):

So, leave me a comment and tell me where you are. It doesn't matter if you are a current client, someone I haven't seen in a while, or just someone stopping by who has never booked a session--everyone is welcome to participate. I'll let you know who the winner is and post some more recent work soon!

  1. Hi! It's Kathy Thomas, and I may be the only true Winston-Salem native still around. I was born here (in Forsyth Hospital, in fact), and I'm STILL here! I lived in Charlotte briefly in college, but Brian, the girls, and I have established some deep roots here. We always say we're going to surprise everyone and take off someday, but I doubt it! We're just too deeply rooted. Not too exciting, but cozy just the same! :) Thanks for letting us in on all these great photos! The website is beautiful.

  2. Greetings from Greensboro! I'm Debra Bingham and I moved to G'boro from Charlotte with my family in January 2007. I grew up in Garner, NC, a once-small town outside of Raleigh (I think it has triped in size since I left for college). We've enjoyed all the photos you've taken of our two sons, Carter and Michael. We look forward to more pictures in the future!

  6. Hi! I'm Nina and I've been in Greensboro for just over 10 years now. I grew up in Carrollton, GA, a *very* small town near the AL border. I went to SMU in Dallas TX and then moved here. My husband Chuck is from Catawba, near Hickory, and went to school in Charlotte. We are getting ready to move to Florham Park NJ for 2 years but should be back in GSO in July 2010. We might just have to bring Ella back for more pictures during those 2 years!

  7. Hi from Chicago! I'm Amber Peters and Julie has taken pictures of my girl's Emma and Eliza. I grew up in N. Wilkesboro, N.C. and moved to Greensboro for college in 86'. I met my husband there in college, he is from Wilmington, DE. We lived in Greensboro for 21 years and now live in Geneva, IL which is a suburb about 30 minutes West of the city. If you ever come to Chicago you must take the train out here and look around. It is beautiful, very old and quaint. Check it out online, you won't be disappointed! I love the blog and getting to see the beautiful children. I hope we can have more pictures taken when we are home. Carolina always on my mind.............

  8. Hi Julie- (from Lori Mon). Both scott and I were born and raised in Philadelphia . We had our first daughter,Bella while we were there. When she was 4, we moved to GSO for Scott's job. I LOVE gSO and that is where I had my 2nd daughter, Sophia. We just moved away to Columbus OH in February. It was so hard to leave NC! But it had to be done and we are finally getting settled in. So if you don't hear from us for a while, it's because we've moved away. But we will be visiting and will try to tie in a session for the girls. ( I absolutely cherish all of my pictures from our last session.)Please keep sending the link to your site. It really brightens my day. Lori Mon

  10. Hey Julie,
Greetings from Summerfield. I was born in Okinawa, Japan, I lived there for 2 years and moved to Hunington Beach, Ca. We lived there for 6 months and then moved to Singapore where we lived for 6 years. We then moved to Jakarta, Indonesia for 9 years. I moved to Greensboro in '91 for 2 years then to Munich ( 8 month) and Ludwisghafen (4 months), Germany for 1 year, then back to Greensboro for 10 years. In 2004 I moved to Summerfield. Oh my, I am getting old too! I think
I got it all and the years right, I can't remember. This is crazy, I really can't remember if i have lived anywhere else! I am losing my mind, is this what having kids really does to your brain?
